Knowing little about Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi or the National League for Democracy, I arrived in country with a blank canvas. What I did discover were betel nut stains, incredible food, thankaka face paint, oppressive heat and a culture not quite South East Asian or Indian – a completely unique experience. While I could be an obnoxious brat and brag, “I was there before it was cool man!”, I won’t. Instead, I’ll let you digest these photographs taken throughout Inle Lake, Bagan and Yangon. You can read about my experiences here on Crikey! Myanmar is an incredible country and one, I suspect, about to explode as the next foreign aid baby of the region.
